Where does the strange name St-Michel-chef-chef come from?
In the past, Saint-Michel-chef-chef was named Saint-Michel-du-Chevecier.
From 1630 to 1673, the city was mainly called Chevechef. The names Chefchef, or chef-chef began to be heard later. In 1792 to fulfill the requirements of a decree from the Convention ordering communes to change their names if they recalled some memories of the royalty, feudality and superstition, the Council decided to keep only Chef-Chef.
